June 24, 2017 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Station J Café at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum
500 Captain Armour’s Way, Jupiter
Fl 33469

We will begin with a tour of the Lighthouse and Museum followed by our General Meeting. Drew Martin, Conservaton Chair for the Loxahatchee Group will then discuss how development impacts Palm Beach County and how developments are approved. Information will be provided on how citizens can get involved in protecting open space near their homes and becoming actively involved in the development process. Most people are unaware of the steps that development proposals go through and where citizens can make their voices heard. One of our goals is to stop the rapid destruction of the remaining open spaces. Often some private lands have significant habitat on them. They also hold flood waters during storms. All developments are required to have site plans that must meet certain guide lines. Also, if they impact wetlands or wildlife they may require permits from state agencies. All these stops are opportunities to stop or improve projects. We will discuss how the Sierra Club could help improve this process and protect the remaining areas of open space.
